Silent Cooperative Apartments (SCA) is a welcoming residential community located in a prime North Side Chicago neighborhood on the historic site of the former Riverview Amusement Park. Designed and built in 1985, SCA was created to serve Deaf seniors age 62 and older, older adults, and individuals in wheelchairs by providing affordable and accessible housing.
As the first community of its kind funded through the U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development (HUD), SCA reflects a long-standing commitment to meeting the needs of residents who are Deaf, hard of hearing, elderly, or physically disabled. Founded by the Illinois Association of the Deaf, the community continues to provide quality affordable housing through the HUD Section 8/202 Program.
