Armstrong, Molasses Junction, Spuds and Vermont Heights are rural communities in inland St. Johns County, west of St. Augustine. The landscape is largely flat, with open fields, pine stands and waterways under a humid Northeast Florida climate: summers are hot and rainy, while winters are generally mild. These small settlements are known more for their agricultural surroundings and scattered homes than for a compact downtown or a concentration of landmarks. Daily errands and dining typically mean driving to nearby towns, where you’ll find casual restaurants, cafés and essential shopping; local options are limited. Outdoor recreation often centers on country roads, fishing and the region’s natural areas, while larger parks and cultural attractions are farther afield. A car is useful for getting around, and regional roads connect the communities with St. Augustine and other parts of the county.
