Back Central sits just south of downtown Lowell, near the Concord River and the city’s historic mill district. Its urban streets mix older residential buildings with former mill architecture, while the Merrimack and Concord rivers shape the area’s setting. The Lowell National Historical Park and nearby canals offer a close-up of the city’s industrial history; riverfront paths and neighborhood green spaces add room for a walk outdoors. The Back Central neighborhood’s median rent is $2,000 per month, with a typical range of $1,550 to $3,000, based on 21 active listings. Downtown cafés, restaurants, shops, galleries, and performance venues are within reach, with more options around the mills and central streets. Local bus routes and commuter rail from downtown connect the area to other parts of Lowell and beyond; walking and cycling work well for nearby errands.
