Northwood, Northwood Lodge and Sheridan sit among the redwoods and winding roads of western Sonoma County, with the Russian River close by and the Pacific coast within a scenic drive. The area has a mild coastal climate, with cool, often foggy mornings and warmer, drier summers. Northwood Golf Club is a notable local landmark, while nearby river beaches and wooded paths offer room for outdoor outings; check local access rules before bringing pets. Monte Rio’s small-town center has casual dining and coffee options, alongside practical shops rather than a large retail district. The historic Rio Theater adds a distinctive arts and entertainment stop. Driving is the most convenient way to reach services and neighboring towns, as public transit is limited and roads are narrow and winding.
