Longbeach and Whitney Beach sit on Longboat Key, a long, narrow barrier island between the Gulf of Mexico and Sarasota Bay. The setting brings sandy shoreline, bay views and a warm, humid coastal climate, with breezes and summer rain shaping outdoor routines. Longboat Key’s beaches and public parks offer space for walks, swimming and time outside; local paths and shoreline access also suit leashed dog outings. The area has a quieter, residential feel, while dining rooms, cafés and small shopping areas are spread along Gulf of Mexico Drive. Arts, performances and more extensive nightlife are available farther south in Sarasota. Residents typically get around by car, with cycling useful for shorter island trips. For ZIP code 34228, the median rent is $7,000 per month and the typical range is $2,000 to $43,000.
