Regional roads connect Shelton and Union with Olympia and routes toward the Olympic Peninsula.
The 98592 area spans Shelton and Union, from the sheltered shores and inlets of Oakland Bay and Hood Canal to forested foothills and rural roads. The marine climate brings mild, wet winters and comparatively dry summers, making outdoor plans seasonal. Shelton’s downtown has local dining, coffee, shops and cultural events, while Union offers a smaller village setting near the waterfront and the historic Alderbrook area. Parks, shoreline access and forest trails provide room for walking, paddling and other outdoor activities; check local access rules before bringing dogs.
