Shady Beach, Hickory Hills and Woodcrest are residential neighborhoods in Geneseo, a small city in northwestern Illinois set amid the broad, rolling farmland of the Rock River region. The area has four distinct seasons, with warm summers, cold winters and changeable spring and fall weather. Geneseo’s historic downtown, with its preserved architecture, local shops, cafés and restaurants, offers a compact place to browse or meet for a meal; community arts and seasonal events add to the calendar. Parks and recreation areas around town provide open space, playgrounds and outdoor places to stretch your legs, while nearby roads connect the neighborhoods to downtown and the surrounding countryside. Most errands and regional trips are easiest by car, though local streets make walking and cycling practical for shorter outings when weather permits.
