The Villages just closed on the long-awaited land deal with the City of Leesburg on November 8, 2018 to purchase 1,127 acres for about $7.54 million - an area known as the Village of West Lake that will include about 2,800 homes. That's terrific for Leesburg. The site was previously a gas station and the underground tanks have been removed, the building razed, and the State of Florida (FDEP) is currently remediating the site. The remediation is expected to be completed before May 2019.
