Unique one of a kind contemporary home * Private Courtyard * Hot tub* Approx .44 Acres * Finished, oversized 2 car garage * Very low maintenance home * Neighborhood Description Glennon Heights is a subdivision of Lakewood, Colorado and is located several blocks south of the Denver Federal Center. There are approximately 220 family dwellings in the community along with churches, parks and the Glennon Heights Elementary School. At the close of World War II the Remington Arms Plant, which made ammunition for the war, was closed and the land was turned over to the Federal Government. The site was named the Denver Federal Center and agencies started moving employees into rural Jefferson County. The year was 1946 and there was no vacant housing available, but there was a 160-acre plot south of the Center which was used for growing wheat. The perimeters of the area are South Simms Street, West Exposition Avenue, West Virginia Avenue, and South Kipling Parkway. A group of employees at the Federal Center, mostly engineers from the Bureau of Reclamation pooled their money, bought the site and began to convert the wheat field into one half acre home sites. They found themselves surveying, planning streets, digging ditches, building a pump house and erecting a water tower atop a hill to bring water to their homes. Most of the work was done by the homeowners and Colorado School of Mines students who were hired to help with the labor. Glennon Heights neighborhood was a carefully planned community. The subdivision was platted with three park areas and one block of land was set aside for the elementary school. Covenants were established and house plans had to be submitted to the Association for approval. All houses had to have a minimum of 1,200 square feet, there would be no paved streets, sidewalks or gutters (since rescinded). Duplex housing, farm animals and oversized vehicles were prohibited.
