This historic building was built in 1856 in Italianta style by J.M.McConihe. John Massillion McConihe, was known as one of Princeton’s most exemplary citizens. J.M. was in the mercantile business and farming with another Princeton leader Justice Stevens. J.M. was also a key leader in building the American House, a post office in the bottom, and a 50 room hotel that burned down. It is known today as the Four Seasons Women’s clothing store at the corner of Main St. and Park Ave. J.M. McConihe’s first cousin was also Franklin Pierce, the 14th president of the United States. Abraham Lincoln spent a week here while trying a case in Hennepin,Il. This building & past home have a historical past not only in Princeton but American history.
