102 and 106 18th Avenue East are two buildings on a single property. Corner House, the larger one, is a 1902 mansion that houses the owners and on-site manager as well as two rental units.
Beside it, Kitty Corner is a pair of modern townhomes (2023), built on the former garage. West Egg, the unit on the street side, is shaded by a beautiful black locust in spring, summer, and fall. A loft bedroom tops the building. The front garden has a rose bed, a variety of ornamental shrubs, and gardens dotted with tulips and daffodils.
Behind it, East Egg faces the back yard and garden, a peaceful fenced space with seating and tables shared by all the residents.
The property, at the top of Capitol Hill in a dense neighborhood, is surprisingly quiet. Many pedestrians pass by, walking their dogs, smelling the roses, heading off to work, giving the area a sense of community at all times of day.
Conveniences: Buses and supermarkets within three blocks, the light rail eight blocks away on Broadway, and restaurants and entertainment nearby.
East Egg is for rent! Ground floor: a bedroom or office with ensuite bathroom; in the hall, washer and dryer and a powder room for guests. First floor: living space, a large glass door overlooking the back yard, gardens, birds, and a tiny slice of lake and mountains in the far corner. Top floor: Open loft bedroom (or perhaps this is the office) with ensuite bathroom.
$3000 per month. No fees. $2000 fully-refundable cleaning and damage deposit. One or two indoor cats (sorry, no dogs; the three next door would be hysterical), no extra charge, but full responsibility for any damage pets cause. (And we once knew two beautiful but depressed and lonely Maine Coons who caused $5000 worth. How? Tore down a wall twice.)
If you're interested, check it out on the maps, make an application through Zillow (conflicting info from Zillow as to whether there's a charge, but you can use it for all the properties that attract you), then come see this rare and gracious home.
Leases are usually one year. New leases are generally offered two months in advance, and acceptance, if desired, should be made within the next month (so we can begin to list the unit). Under no conditions will a lease revert to a month-to-month rental.
No smoking. A maximum of two cats, preferably indoors for their own safety, may be permitted; no other pets. The renter is responsible for all costs of repairing damage.
Keep your entrance clear of impediments and debris.
