This unique house is of post and beam construction, built of large treated wood piling, some 50-ft long, all set 14 feet below grade with 4-ft x 4-ft x 1-ft concrete collar 4 feet below grade anchoring the piling. The floors and walls are supported by the beams running from the pilings. The walls bear no loads. This historical Gulf Coast type of construction has proven to be the most hurricane resistant for a wood house. In fact, our house withstood Hurricane Ivan (2004) without any structural damage; and both the stairs and the metal roof didn't fail. The ground floor has a foyer, screened porch and car port. The 1st floor above has 2 bedrooms , 2 full baths and an unfinished room. The 2nd has the master bedroom and bath and the open family area with kitchen, dining area, TV area and living room with fireplace.
