If I could only talk, the historic tales that I would tell! The original adobe structure (front 2 rooms of today's house) was found on the 1885 map undertaken in the 1884 to present to President U.S. Grant who deeded 320 acres to the townsmen of Tularosa. This home is located in the original historic 49 Blocks with irrigation ditch water rights. Pumpkin Pine was ordered from the East coast to install over the original dirt floors. The kiva and extra thick adobe walls helped keep both rooms at a constant temperature. The adobe walls were laid so that the walls are "extra thick" because residents had to defend themselves from the Indian raids. The adobe was restored and additions added in 2008. The main homes has tall ceilings with beautiful vigas throughout the home. The spacious kitchen has newer appliances. The master bedroom has a patio and hot tub. A large shower and walk-tub is in the master bath. The living room has a woodburning stove and patio doors that open to the partially covered patio and courtyard. A storage room/ workshop and office (14 x16) is located in the rear of the car port. The office is cooled and heated by a heat pump. The Casita is approximately 1200sqft and was used as the owner's music studio and pool room. The ceiling was designed for recording and practice purposes. A 3/4 bath, 2 bedrooms, small kitchen, pellet stove, new mini split round out this great little casita, mother-in law's or BNB. The courtyard and side yard are easy to maintain. There is a small storage area behind the office to move any potted plants that are subject to freezing.
