The building was symbolic of the change along Armour from single-family residences to apartments and hotels of distinction. In 1909, the Chalfonte provided luxurious living for its tenants. A newspaper article announcing construction of the building, stressed the appointments and equipment, which would be available to the residents in each units. These included such things as china closets, buffets, iceboxes, bookcases, were the first apartment suites in Kansas City with two baths. Fast forward over 100 years, and the building now features new kitchens with granite countertops, stainless steel appliances, laundry inside the apartment, newly refinished hardwood floors throughout, but there's no mistaking the pedigree of this building.
