They started selling feed under their own private label, MARCO (which stood for Mount Ayr Ringgold County). At that time, this was a very progressive undertaking as there were not very many local mills in existence. In 1932, Nutrena was gaining popularity with their chicken feed and their familiar jingle "Feed your Chicks Nutrena" so Mr. Anderson made his first order and continued to carry Nutrena Feeds over all its years and became the oldest Nutrena franchise in the United States! In 1936, they started selling blocks of ice and later the blocks were crushed at the Mill using an ice crusher. The Mill also sold and hauled coal. The coal was unloaded off the train which came through Mount Ayr and hauled to the school, hospital, courthouse and other businesses. In the mid 1950's, Jesse's son, Max Anderson, bought the Mill from his Father. Max started offering bulk feed and mobile milling. Max ran the Mill until he retired and sold the business in 1992. The Mount Ayr Mill and Feed Company was proud to be a family owned and operated company for 75 years!
