7 bedroom home in the country. 48.5 acres. ¼ mile off HWY 14. Quiet old country road. Many wonderful spots to get lost in out here in the big sky, fresh air, rolling hills of southern Iowa. These hills are here, on this property. There is a large creek running south/north about half way through the farm and a smaller one running east/west. Approximately 20 acres of hay field (we did “hay for half” with local farmers each year). Ran 10 head of cattle and 30 head of sheep on this farm each year. We planted oak, elm and cherry trees that are slowly growing. The maple trees we have let run wild in the backyard and they grow rather quickly. New roof in 2014. Excellent hiking ground. Good inclines for long walks. The hay field is a great workout with just a hike. Septic re-done before we bought the house (2011). 1st floor was remodeled when we moved in (2011). Electric was installed at that time as well. Bathroom was remodeled in 2012. Giant wood stove was installed in 2013. You need approximately 25 full truckloads of the best wood to heat during the winter. Furnace installation recommended. The house was originally built with electricity. The Amish lived here for several years and did some additions to the house without electricity (we had a professional rewire the electric in the entire house when we moved in.) The additions to the house make this home unique and pictures/descriptions cannot portray its uniqueness enough. Some of the upstairs bedrooms are rather small. Perfect for craft room, yoga room, art studio or office/study. Some paint would be nice for some of these smaller rooms. Two of the upstairs rooms are larger (used one as a master bedroom). The 7th bedroom is on the ground floor and is connected to the bathroom. New shower and sink installed in 2012 along with the flooring in the bathroom. The attic was spray insulated in 2012. First floor is very open and vast with hard wood floors. There are many cabinets, closet spaces, windows and doors. Large red barn was Amish built includes a hay elevator and a huge space to stack hay on the second floor. There is water to the big red barn but no electricity. This barn also has 13 stanchions for milking, 4 feeding stalls and two sorting rooms with doors that are good for separating animals. Several outbuildings on the farm. There is a ¾ wrap around deck. The deck is huge and has a wonderful view both day and night. Excellent spot to have morning coffee. Wonderful for houseplants. The farm is full of nature and has many places to explore. Kids have lots of fun looking for treasures on the farm. Sounds of nature are different with the seasons. Listening to the crickets and frogs is a very peaceful experience and we enjoy it in the spring and fall. You can see the stars. On a clear night the sky is so huge. Lots of birds especially when it’s windy/storming. Large flocks of different birds have been known to land in our trees in their migration patterns. Canadian geese are here every year heading south and then back north. Huge garden space. Planted asparagus, elderberry bushes, red and black raspberries and the mulberry trees are plentiful and wild here. One apple tree needs a mate. Herb garden has chives, thyme, oregano and more. Excellent hunting ground. Last year the biggest count was 50 head of deer making their way across the back 20. We love this home/farm but have chosen to move to be closer to family. If we could be so lucky to find this love in another home/farm that would be most excellent.
