    What's special

The circular brick courtyard filled with roses and surrounded by a hand built, historically accurate, whitewashed picket fence is your first introduction to the charm of 122 East Queen Street in Hillsborough. This house, built in the 1940’s, is a perfect example of that era’s emphasis on the value of the comforts of home and hearth. Large enough to contain interesting spaces for all members of the family, yet imbued with a warmth often lacking in modern residences. As you enter in the front door, to your right you’ll notice an open, yet intimate, space where three rooms that serve as dining room, living room (with working brick fireplace) and sitting room all flow together to join a family room at the back of the house overlooking the beautiful yard. The family room has windows on three sides and has the feeling of a wonderful adult treehouse. To your left as you enter the house, is a completely updated kitchen. It includes granite countertops, a 36” Italian stainless steel range with rotisserie oven, stainless refrigerator, freezer, extraordinary ventilating hood, dishwasher, designer sink, with hot water dispenser and professional disposal system. The kitchen is beautiful and was designed with serious cooking in mind. It is great for entertaining and visiting with friends while you cook. Also on the main floor is a master bedroom that overlooks the back yard. The entire main floor has rich dark hardwood flooring with brick pavers in the entryway and family room. These floors were restored in the last few years. Upstairs are two large bedrooms, a full bath with double sink, and a small laundry room. The bedrooms are carpeted (over hardwood in the larger room) and the bathroom floor and counters are tiled (all three baths in the house are completely tiled). There is a small attic crawl space off one of the bedrooms. The basement level has been nicely finished, with two bonus rooms that could be used as extra bedrooms or as an office, media room (pre-wired), sewing room, or other project space. There is a laundry area and ample storage space. The basement is very livable and has none of the moisture problems that can plague some basements in the area. Two sides of the basement are completely above ground and have their own outside entrances off a charming brick patio with a small mural to add to its charm. This level also has a full bathroom with tile floors, tile counters, a steam shower, and a small closet. Floors in the basement are tile and painted concrete, with carpet in one of the bonus rooms. The laundry area and one of the bonus rooms have underfloor heating. The brick patio overlooks the back yard and is great for grilling. There is also a greenhouse / garden shed attached to the back of the house. The house has an extensive speaker system installed in the ceilings of four rooms with separate volume control in each. This system could easily be expanded to as much of the house as desired. A separate 1940’s garage shed at the bottom of the driveway offers convenient storage for bikes, lawnmower, and other items. Neighborhood Description This house is located on perhaps the most beautiful street in historic Hillsborough and is within walking distance of everything downtown has to offer--farmer's market, great restaurants, coffee shop, wine shop, pastry shop, book store, galleries, Weaver Street Market, Poets' Walk, and much more. Yet I-85 and I-40 are only minutes away, allowing a convenient commute to Chapel Hill, Durham, and surrounding areas. RDU airport is but a 30-minute drive.
