For someone new to town, King William is probably closest to New York's Greenwich Village in atmosphere, but the parking is easy and so are costs. The population tends to be a mix of older people, mostly arts and professional folks, and younger people, some of whom are renters. It has a rather odd combination of a slow, quiet pace (represented by the peaceful and beautiful lower Riverwalk area along the San Antonio River) contrasted with the rambunctious Blue Star Brewery and S. Alamo arts and entertainment district. This is a very neighborly place, and we have a very active association. See www.kingwilliamassociation.org. The only downsides are noise from S. Alamo St. during the day, train horns at night, and the steadily declining number of landlords who are allergic to paint and repairs. Crime is minimal and the police are all over the neighborhood to keep it safe for the tourists. This neighborhood is getting very hot (spring 2015), with construction all over and almost nothing for sale in single family/light commercial anywhere. HEB finally building a grocery.
