    What's special

100 year old duplex with farmhouse type wooden frame construction. Home has 3 enterances on front and side with huge lot, large profile from street is often mistaken for single family home. Proud 25 foot flag pole is a neighborhood fixture. Newly remodelled interior features include Neighborhood Description Hampden has a small town feel within the big city. This historic neighborhood was the setting for Pecker (among other movies) and has an ecclectic mix of artist, student, young professional, and working class residents. There is a great variety of young and old, well-to-do and poor, single people and families; this is part of what makes Hampden great. The area is a bit on the artsy/freaky side (e.g. HON Fest); and there is a high level of community involvement and an active neighborhood association. Sadly, there are some problems as well; drug abuse and petty crime still persist, though most people are good and law abiding. Hampden also has a history of racism which it is still trying to come to terms with, but things seem to be getting better as a larger variety of people move into the area bringing individual differences and greater tolerance with them.
