We are taking a year to live abroad with our boys, and are looking for the right family for a long-term rental. Our 3-bed 2-bath fully renovated, furnished home is perfect for families who are considering a move or a second home in wine country (and want to test the waters!). Or for new arrivals to Sonoma County who need a warm and comfortable home base for a year. Sebastopol is a charming small city dotted with restaurants, local shops, vineyards, farm stands, and top-notch schools. The house is 5 minutes from downtown, but with a distinctly country vineyard feel. The 1.25 acre property seems larger than it is, deeply sloped with dozens of the old-growth heritage Gravenstein apple trees that defined Sebastopol from the early 1900s until the wine industry boom. It is a delicious micro-climate of full warm sun and cooling evening fog, 20 minutes to Bodega Bay and Doran Beach or to the lazy Russian River. Surrounded by local wineries. A gorgeous rural 30 minute drive will get you to Tomales Bay for kayaking and fresh oysters. 60 minutes south to the Golden Gate Bridge and San Francisco. This is not a pristine Wine Country rental designed just to be looked at. This ridge-top historic orchard property is our home, made to be lived in and well-loved. Prepare feasts in the spacious, stocked, open-plan kitchen with a walk-in pantry and spectacular 360-degree views. Host friends on one of the 3 redwood decks overlooking pastures, orchards, and vineyards. Gaze down Green Valley, out to Mount St. Helena and the Mayacamas range, and the twinkling evening lights of nearby Santa Rosa. Take your fresh eggs and morning coffee out on one of the southeastern-facing decks and watch the sun crest the morning fog over Petaluma Valley. Sip chardonnay in the Adirondack chairs under the kiwi vines. Pick the golden raspberries. Snooze in the hammock under the pergola. Switch to a Sonoma County pinot and grill up some local Russian River steelhead trout. Tuck under a blanket with steaming tea and watch the chilly evening fog roll in over the western ridges from the coast. Soak in the hot tub under the stars, and listen for the Great Horned owls that roost in nearby redwoods. That's what we do.
