Phase II of the downtown development will soon be underway. This is being contracted out to a private developer to build retail and other commercial properties. Once construction begins the anticipated completion will be within 24 months. Currently there is a waiting list of restaurants looking for space. Alpharetta has had great success with their community centric format of bringing outdoor entertainment and food venues to the downtown area. It all started with the Farmer’s Market and now includes a food truck event, brew pubs and music along with afternoon football tailgating parties. Avalon is .5 miles from downtown Alpharetta and the Mayor is hoping to spearhead a connectivity project that will join the two areas – creating what he sees as Downtown West and Downtown East. Our new City Hall has opened and offers meeting space for all communities. The library is underway and the completion of the 5 acre park is moving along. Alpharetta has become a leading community for technology growth companies, competing with other technology cities like Austin and Silicon Valley. This is very positive growth potential for the City. We currently are home to 600 technology companies; Atlanta has only 300; Austin Texas also has 600. Alpharetta is looking in to constructing a convention center to serve the new businesses coming into the city and surrounding area. We have the lowest employment rate in the State of GA, which means we have jobs but not enough people to fill them – a very good problem to have.
