Captain Leroy Moncure Nutt served as a scout behind enemy lines during the Civil War and after the war served on Shreveport city council, and was an attorney and state senator. His wife and children followed him during his exploits and she wrote "Courageous Journey: The Civil War Journal of Letitia Lafon Ashmore Nutt."
