The TaborHouse community is looking for a new member! We are a small community of 9 (8 others), and we live in a big house next to Mt. Tabor Park. The vibe of TaborHouse is 'community living for adults'. By adults, I mean that we are all responsible, conscientious, have professions/careers, clean up after ourselves, know how to communicate respectfully, etc. Our house and its grounds have had a lot of love and care put into making them beautiful. The house used to be a speakeasy when it was first built in the '20s, and it has a lot of charm, furnished with antiques and art, and kept pretty clean (sometimes cluttered, but still clean!). There is a lot of shared commonspace: the main floor has a shared kitchen with lots of cabinet space, a breakfast nook, a classy dining room, a living room with a fireplace and baby grand piano. Outside, we have a covered back patio, a large front and back yard with old trees including a giant sequoia, gardens, a hot tub, and a firepit. We're located in central southeast Mt. Tabor neighborhood in a dead end street that leads into the park, and also walking distance from upper Hawthorn, Belmont, and Division (buses 15, 14, 71, 4, and 20). Also biking distance from Providence Hospital and Reed College. Mt. Tabor park is a large woodsy park with 3 open reservoirs, a gorgeous view of the city, concerts and events in the summer, and lots of rec facilities (tennis and basketball courts, swing-sets, big dog park, hiking trails, etc.). The community consists 6 bedrooms, 1 basement apartment, and a cottage. We welcome folks of all cultures, genders, identities,, etc. Many of us have creative hobbies and value therapy. We also share in common is a value of being kind, conscientious/responsible, honest/authentic, and sharing in celebrating life while also doing our own inner work. We hold house dinners about once a month, community celebrations for birthdays and holidays, and sometimes semi-public events like concerts and poetry readings. The room being rented has wood floors and two closets (one with a window and little desk inside). It's on the second floor next to a shared bathroom. It has the option of being furnished with matching wood furniture. Room is available March 1st, but could be open for February! Community expectations are minimal but important: ever member has about 1hr chores/wk (you get to choose your chore and don't have to rotate unless you want to) and participation in house meetings and house decisions via email are also required (average of 1hr/mo), while participation in events and dinners are optional. Important Disclaimers: - This house is kept pretty clean (not sterile, but relatively uncluttered), and we have a shared agreement to clean up after ourselves and keep up with our chores. - This house tends to have high utilities ($100-150/mo), and while we care about conserving energy (not leaving lights and appliances on when not in use), we also value comfort, so having a hot tub and keeping the house warm and well lit in the winter is a value of ours. - Our quiet hours are 11pm to 8am, and some of us get home around 9~10pm, so there must be comfort with speaking and cooking sounds at 10pm sometimes. - Our house loves cats and offers free cat-sitting, and could welcome other small pets cat-sized or smaller. Note: all cats must be allowed outdoors, though we have a practice of calling them in at night for safety. Cost to move in is first month's rent and a 500 security deposit. Utilities are split and calculated at the end of the month, with high-speed wifi and washer/dryer included! INSTRUCTIONS: Send us an email us with a description of yourself (include age, job, interests/hobbies, values, anything else you'd like to share), a picture, reasons why you would like to join our house, and anything else you'd like to say. Utilities split and include laundry and wifi (recently upgraded), rental agreement month-to-month. Parking available on the street alongside the house.
