Unit B of 1335 High St. Neighborhood Description Copied from various websites: While the construction in the Wyman Historic District varies across three distinct styles, Victorian, Post-Victorian, and Early Modern, the neighborhood also contains many examples of other architectural designs including Moderne, Prairie Style, Period Revivals, and Bungalows. Additionally, Wyman contains one of the only examples of the rare Shingle Style in Denver at 1359 Race Street. Named a Historic District in 1993, Wyman’s Addition remains a thriving, diverse, and well-loved part of the heart of Denver. Get the Wyman Historic District walking guide, by Diane Wilk, at the Tattered Cover bookstore and enjoy spending the day walking around this area. http://www.amazon.ca/Wyman-Historic-District-Diane-Wilk/dp/0914248057 The Wyman Historic District was first developed in the 1880's by John Wyman. The Wyman neighborhood was and is a unique slice of the Architecture, Geography and History of Denver during its early boom/bust period and beyond. This district contains the largest collection of original 19th Century architectural masterpieces with stone and brick mansions. Eleven distinct architectural styles are represented-from Greek Revival to Queen Anne, Italianate to Folk Victorian and the Denver Square. Many of the structures were constructed at the height of the "Silver Boom" in the 1880's and 1890's and continued undaunted throughout the "Silver Bust" which followed. Currently, the Wyman Historic District is experiencing a resurgence in development. Colfax Avenue boasts transportation to downtown Denver and the Convention Center. Restaurants and shops are appearing on the landscape; Cheesman Park offers walking paths and people watching under a multitude of mature trees. Clearly, this neighborhood is one of Denver's finest gems and is enormously valued for its architectural edifices, its small shopping areas featuring grocery stores, tailors, bakeries, and drug stores, and the lush landscapes of its streets.
