Following her divorce from Strand, James moved to Taos where she fell in with a group of friends that included Mabel Dodge Luhan, Dorothy Brett, and Frieda Lawrence. She was so taken by the hospitality of Mabel Dodge Luhan that she urged her Manhattan friend Georgia OKeefe to come to the Southwest, observing that Georgiawould do some great things. In 1937 she married William James, a Denver businessman, then operating the Kit Carson Trading Company in Taos. She remained in Taos until her death in 1968.
