    What's special

Country home on 4 acres 45 minutes from Iowa City, IA. 3 bedroom, 2 bath, earth-bermed, super-insulated, passive solar home 1600 square foot with all tile floors, knotty pine vaulted ceilings, Vermont castings catalytic wood stove and geothermal water furnace for back-up heat, cooling and hot water. There is a jacuzzi tub in one of the 2 full bathrooms. The large master suite has double sinks in the adjoining full bathroom. The house was professionally designed by Mother Earth News magazine. Open floor plan with an open kitchen, dining and living room. There is a den that could be converted into another bedroom if you like. 3 walk-in closets, 3 regular double closets & air lock entryway. The exterior doors are brand new with one set of French style double doors so it is easy to move furniture in and out. There is a nice patio in back for barbecuing, etc. The 4 acre property is divided in half with the back half being a nature preserve with a pond stocked with fish, walking trails, bridges over a small creek, a wildlife viewing blind and a gazebo. There is a deer hunting tree stand and a blind on the property and 15 stand locations within 5 miles on private property. A 3.5 Kw wind turbine and two solar pv arrays were professionally installed that produce more electricity than we can use so we tied on to the grid and get a check from the utility for excess production. The wind turbine is on a 60 foot, tilt-up, motorized tower for easy maintenance. You could add a battery set up if you want to go off grid. There are two sources of water - a very good well and also rural water supplied by a cooperative. There is a nice root cellar for storing produce. There is an orchard with apples, pears, cherries, plums, nectarines, peaches and apricots as well as established grape vines, blueberries, raspberries and asparagus. There are established hickory, walnut, chestnut, almond, pecan, oak and filbert trees. Established conifer wind break to the north and west of the property. The raised bed gardens have been planted organically and there are tons of different perennials planted all over the property. There are rocks from all over blended into the landscape, a small greenhouse, a chicken coop and a one acre fenced pasture with a cedar barn. In the past we have raised horses, sheep and a few steers. The place is set up to raise goats with goat feeders and a milking table. There is good woven wire perimeter, garden and pasture fence. The 24x40 pole building can be used as a workshop and garage with a loft for storage. There is a play area with swing set, a nice tree house in the woods, a picnic area with stone fire circle and a tree swing. The house is on a cement road and the driveway is poured cement, so absolutely no gravel to drive on. It is 8 min. to Mount Pleasant, IA 25 minutes to Fairfield, IA. All the buildings have newer permanent seamless metal roofing. The kitchen was recently remodeled with custom made, quarter sawn oak cabinets and quartz counter-tops. There is also custom built-in oak bureau and shelves in the living room. There is a new Kinetico Reverse Osmosis drinking water system. Also a whole house air filtration system so the air and water are very clean. The house is on high ground so never any danger of flooding. But if you like to canoe, kayak or go fishing about a mile away is the Skunk River.
