The historic house, circa 1923, is a beautiful example of the bungalow style popular throughout the United States. In 2017 it received Historic Designation and was named the James Demengeaux House. This 2,534 SF house features a wrap-around front porch that faces St. John Street and Calder Street (with traffic-calming bollards that limit the through traffic nearby). Several other porches and decks have been added including a dining deck off the kitchen that is connected to the front porch, a back porch off the library addition overlooking a New Orleans style private courtyard garden, and a private deck off the master bedroom bath that features an outdoor shower with lush tropical plantings. Over the years, the mature landscaping has won recognition as a “Garden of the Month” and is full of colorful, perennial blooms throughout the year. Its street view is historic but because of several renovations in its nearly 100 year life, its present configuration lends itself to modern life. The renovated kitchen is nearly 400 square feet with a cooking island/breakfast bar plus a spacious sitting area. There is almost 30 linear feet of Ubatuba granite countertop. It has two central AC units (one new in 2020) plus three mini-splits (new within 3 years) that make it an efficient heating and air-conditioning system. Plus it has a 6kW solar array completely hidden from the street which helps to offset the electricity bill. It is a three bedroom, two full- and one half-bath home. All baths were recently remodeled for a contemporary look and feel. Original sash windows allow lots of light into the house throughout the day, especially the large living room, kitchen and formal dining room. The living room features a brick wood-burning hearth and mantle. There is a 275 SF library addition with a wood-burning/gas-powered fireplace and a 650 SF two-car garage/carport that includes a walk-in pantry and a shop, both with AC. The Zestimate from Zillow is not correct as they did not include as a comparable the house across the street that sold for $538,000 two months ago and is very similar to my house except it is a two-bedroom house.
