Unique, charming and very secluded cabin in the San Bernardino Forest, just a short hike to Jenks Lake, famous for its rainbow trout fishing which is stocked from April to October, as well as bluegill and bass fishing. There are hundreds of hiking and biking trails around, notably the South Fork Trail going up to San Gorgonio Mountain (11,503 ft.), second highest peak in California! As a bonus, Big Bear is just about 20 miles away for those who like to boat, ski, go to restaurants or even to the movie theatre. This cabin is the perfect weekend and holiday getaway.
Despite being nested among the trees, there is good phone reception and the possibility of using WIFI for those that may need it for remote work or to simply “Netflix & chill”. The cabin runs on electricity and there are wall heaters on each floor, plus the fireplace and the vintage wood cast iron stove keeps this cabin warm even in the winter. The septic tank was installed in 2008 and will be inspected prior to the sale.
Enter the fully furnished cabin to a cozy living room, with comfortable couches, TV, DVD player and a beautiful stone fireplace. The kitchen has the original cast iron stove from 1908 which is fully functional and also an induction stovetop and a fridge/freezer. The bathroom has a separate WC and a “cowboy shower” made of cedar planks reminiscent of a sauna.
Upstairs, the main bedroom has a queen size bed that overlooks a babbling creek, imagine falling asleep to that perfect soundtrack. The second bedroom has a full size bed. Also upstairs there is a space that can be used as kids playroom and/or as additional sleeping quarters since there is a trundle bed. But no matter where you are in the cabin, you can always look through the many windows into the forest.
The cabin was originally built in 1900, presumably by gold diggers and trappers (there is a now sealed mine shaft in front of the cabin), and later expanded around 1930. It is eligible for listing in the National Register of Historic Places (NRHP), as per a study conducted by Cal Poly Pomona School of Architecture.
Don't miss your chance to own a little piece of history in the wilderness!
