UPDATE: As of August 2012 this home is now a single family home rather than a duplex. It was converted to SFH by the current owners (purchased home in 2007). I have a hard time figuring out what to call the architecture of this home. It's got some Craftsman features but it's not a Craftsman home. It's more of a 1920s traditional, with deep eaves, a modifed hip roof, rather plain and austere brick. The home does not have a modern open floor plan, though I have a 20 year plan to change that on the first floor flat (post conversion). But, the compartmentalized floor plan typical of the 1920 has its appeal, too, mainly serving to also compartmentalize noise and afford privacy. Typical small closets and bedrooms. Wonderful front porches on both flats. Neighborhood Description This Atlanta neighborhood was originally built as a suburb of the city of Atlanta at the turn of the century and was annexed to the city in the early part of the 1900s. It’s located 3 miles from downtown Atlanta, which makes it hard to think of as a former suburb. It’s an eclectic neighborhood known for it's artsy feel and liberal leanings, though most residents have post-secondary educations and professional careers. While the neighborhood is largely single family homes there are condo-conversions, MFHs, brand new high end townhouses, etc. Our home is one of the few original duplexes built in Candler Park, meaning it was built as a duplex (up-down flats). However, 5 years from this description (06 Jan 09) the house should be converted into a single family home. What's great about Candler Park? Overall, it's everything I can walk to.... 1. The Park itself! 2. Little 5 Points (props to L5P Pharmacy and it's great proprietor/pharmacist Ira - one of the last independent mom-n-pop neighborhood drug stores) 3. The Flying Biscuit Cafe (great vegetarian gourmet - though not 100% vegetarian. No red meat.) 4. Fellini's Pizza (great patio) 5. Candler Park Market with it's 2 isles (out of 6 total) dedicated to beer and wine 6. LaFonda (Cuban and Mexican) 7. Gatco Bizko (sp? Good greasy spoon) 8. The Mercantile (best baguettes) 9. Radial Cafe (all around good breakfast) 10. Fox Bros BBQ (awesome pork, chicken, and beef BBQ, and hella good fried pickles, AND $4 16oz Red Stripe - that I can WALK to) 11. Ladies Only Belly Dancing studio (right at the corner of my block!) 12. Sweetwater beer festival every spring in the park 13. Candler Park Fallfest every October in the park 14. Donna van Gohs (sp? eclectic art) 15. Doc Bombays (ice cream shop plus coffee) 16. Piercing Experience (where I got my nose stud)
