Heated exclusively by a wood stove, the house is incredibly energy efficient and well insulated, burning less than 2 cords a year. It is a small space but high ceilings make you feel like it's much bigger. There is tons of outdoor storage space and, given the size of the home, impressive amounts of indoor storage, as well. Newly renovated floors complete the package. While the property is tucked in the woods and out of sight from any neighbors, the house is easy to get to with a driveway bringing you right to the front door. There is a private and sunny yard for enjoying and even a veggie garden in place for the aspiring homesteader. Note: There is a composting toilet which requires regular emptying by tenants. It is a hygienic and non-smelly system (based on the model found in The Humanure Handbook) but does require some effort and is, perhaps, not for everyone. Rent is $1,600/month for a 12 month lease for a maximum of 2 tenants. There is a $1,600 security deposit. Landlord pays for road fees (the property is on a private road) while the tenant will pay for electricity, fire wood, internet, and snow removal. There is an on-site well for water. The tenant is also responsible for lawn care and yard maintenance during the term of their lease, as well as maintaining the compost system (with initial guidance from the landlord). While the home is tucked away in the woods, there are still neighbors within ear shot. As such, any tenant should be a responsible and considerate neighbor to the rest of those on the road. No loud parties, fireworks, etc. Up to two pets are allowed. Given the size of the home, smaller pets only, please.
