Built in 1825, the "Joseph Whitenack" House is an excellent example of early 19th century Greek Revival architecture, a rare brick house of considerable grandeur and elegant detail. Owned by the same family since 1860, the house sits on a spectacular site overlooking the Amwell Valley on 46 acres (40 of which are preserved farmland.) Set at the end of a long driveway, the center hall colonial is defined by beautiful original pine floors, nine foot ceilings and oversize windows of six over six panes. To the left of the entry is a double parlor with two fireplaces and built in bookcases. The staircase bannister is made of curly tiger maple and continues to the third floor. There are five working fireplaces with original mantels, and nine fireplaces in all. All of the bedrooms have custom built in cedar cabinets. Three of the four bedrooms have a sink in the cabinets. The property is farmland preserved and farmland assessed. The property backs to a stream and preserved land.
