Full-dimension lumber is used throughout, with 2x4s on 12-inch centers. The house is wired with 12 gauge copper, and well-grounded. The main shape is octagonal. All load is born by exterior walls. The 12-foot ceiling is 2x6 tongue-and-groove supported by two 33 foot, and one 24 foot 4x12 cedar beams. Exterior is Hardy Plank. We added a 250SF stone patio and 14 foot tall cedar pergola in 2009. Prior to move-in we gutted and extensively remodeled everything. We removed the wood paneling and replaced it with 1/2-inch sheetrock, completely remodeled the bath, plumbed for propane and added a 250 gallon tank, added double-pane windows and replaced all existing windows with double-pane, added Italian porcelain tile floors throughout, and walled the shower with ceramic tile.
