San Clemente is known as the "Spanish Village by the Sea" for its village atmosphere, magnificent Mediterranean style, breathtaking views and beautiful beaches with world-renowned surf and attracts 2.7 million people each year. New shopping opportunities are on the horizon, including the Talega Village Center, due to be completed this spring, and The Plaza at the San Clemente project, consisting of 650,000 square feet of retail planned for ocean-view Marblehead coastal area near Vista Hermosa. Casa Romantica Cultural Center serves as the cultural centerpiece of the city, featuring native landscaping, a library and local research archive, historical displays, a lecture series, and music, dance and theater performances. Casa Romantica was built in 1927 by San Clemente's founder Ole Hanson, who resided there with his family.
