The Austin House was built in 1875 for Eugene A. Austin and designed by architect George King. Austin was an early pioneer and Mayor of Boulder from 1887 to 1891. The Austin House is a wonderful example of the Victorian style, Italianate. This particular style emphasized vertical proportions and richly decorative detailing. Italianate style characteristics of the Austin House include wide projecting cornices with heavy brackets and richly ornamented window moldings. The home is a designated Boulder Historic Landmark.
