    NOTE: there is a mistake on Zillow that I cannot correct, correct sq ft is 2086! This house was the second built in the Spruce plat area, one of the, if not the, most desirable neighborhoods in Kalamazoo. Adding to the neighborhood's desirability is Winchell Elementary School. Kalamazoo Promise qualified! It exhibits unique architecture exemplified by a Japanese Pagoda-style roof. It is masonry construction of brick and stucco with wood trim sporting dragon teeth on the porches in keeping with the Japanese influence. Construction is very solid with large oak beams supporting the house in the full basement. The walls are plaster and lath. The front entrance is a columned porch leading into a front foyer with a mosaic, ceramic tile floor. This floor and the floor in the second-floor bathroom are similar to those found in the Neues Museum in Berlin where the head of Nefertiti is displayed. The European influence carries thru the interior of the house, while the exterior has the exotic, oriental style as noted above. From the foyer, to the right is the formal living room with fireplace (gas log) that extends the depth of the house. To the left is the formal dining room which is divided from the kitchen by a swinging door. Also, on the first floor are a former porch that has been converted to 4-season use. It previously was used as a library. Off the dining room is a small room facing south that suggests use as a reading room on sunny days. Floors throughout the house except for the kitchen and tiled areas are oak. White oak on the first floor and red oak on the second. All floors have been professionally refinished. The stairway to the second floor leads from both the living room and kitchen to a single stairway upwards. The stairs are also oak. The second floor has four bedrooms with a larger master bedroom. The original principal bath is on this floor. From the second floor, a stairway leads to the attic which was used for ample storage. The attic also has a fan for whole house ventilation. Completing the house is a basement accessible from the kitchen and an outside storm cellar door. A second bathroom with shower is located here. Part of the basement forms a utility room with washer/dryer. The other is a finished rec room. The basement was waterproofed by Great Lakes Waterproofing and is paneled throughout. Completing the property is a two car garage attached to the original carriage house. The latter provides additional storage. There is additional parking between the garage and rear entrance to the house. The driveway and front and rear walkways are hand-laid brick. Significant improvements were made to the already solid construction. These include full insulation of walls and attic, modern dual-pane windows, A/C, security system, reroofed 2004, copper plumbing, and upgraded electric. Infrastructure upgrades were the primary focus so remodeling to one’s taste is to be expected. This home is ideal for a family with children! A very safe, desirable neighborhood with schools nearby, the Kleinstuck Preserve is a 2-3 block walk. Large, mature trees complement the yard. This is a home in which to raise a family.
