Undoubtedly the "coolest" structure in the Adirondacks, and maybe the country! Originally constructed in 1898 as part of the Saranac Lake Winter Carnival, this structure disappears every spring and is rebuilt each winter. Locals continue to debate what to call this building made of ice; is it a castle? Or a Palace? Originally called a "fortress", the design changes every year. This year's build intentionally is without windows and doors, but we can assume from its size that you could comfortably sleep up state allowed maximum of 10 people. Roof will need to be added soon. Block siding is ice, not concrete. Noticeably missing is a fireplace, for obvious reasons. Occupants must make use of the new bathrooms at the state launch next door...if they ever open. Furnishings include two throne chairs. This one will not last! Guaranteed to be bulldozed within a few weeks. In case anyone is wondering, this LISTING IS A JOKE, and is intended to make you smile.
