The original log home was built by a German born couple who immigrated to the United States and built a home and a thriving orchard business in a new country. In 1862, as the Civil War raged just 1.5 miles away in downtown E-town, a two story log structure, 19’ x 45.’ was built by Alois and Clara Shousten. It has been added onto over the years but still has the original wood floors and log walls. Over the years there were out buildings added including a 700 sq. ft. frame shop, an 816 sq. ft. wood working shop built in 1972 and a 320 sq. ft. garden/utility shed in 1980. There are too many features to mention and it is a must see for anyone interested in a historic home (A Kentucky Landmark plaque is on the front of the home from the Hardin County Historical Society). The current owners have done extensive work with a restoration of the metal roof, replacement windows throughout and the addition of various split system heating and cooling units.
