We’ve truly loved this home and living just far enough outside of the big city to enjoy quiet country living, with bright starry night skies, and yet still being close enough to feel connected to a bigger community! As much as we’ve loved life in this amazing farmhouse, we found SO much joy in the natural spaces of the land. Over the past 8 years, we thoughtfully transformed what we affectionately call “The Back 5” acres into an outdoor sanctuary with maintained walking trails, primitive camping areas, a campfire/grill, and a picnic area. In addition to the various outdoor activity possibilities, there is an abundance of native wildflowers, grasses and tree species, and wildlife! ***THE FARM*** In 2015, the property was purchased and initially utilized as a homestead, raising animals primarily for private sustenance. The “Front 5” acres of the land were initially sectioned off from the house and the “Back 5” wooded acreage, and made into paddocks. A wide variety of animals were raised. In 2018, we transitioned away from animals and began converting the land into a commercial, organic, bio-intensive, market garden-style micro-farm. Our farm was a Certified Naturally Grown farm, using zero chemically-based pesticides/herbicides. A market garden is defined as a small-scale production of intensive mixed fruits, vegetables, and/or flower production as cash crops, frequently sold directly to consumers and restaurants, on a small area of land. With the given infrastructure and prime soil conditions, the land is turnkey for a vegetable, fruit/berry, or flower farming operation. ***The ‘Back 5’ acreage*** Pond - with the extreme drought over the past numerous years, the pond levels have been low by the end of the Summer. Thankfully, early Spring rains typically fill the pond completely and attract a chorus of frogs, herons, and the occasional duck! The pond does not have fish currently but has been stocked previously with sunfish, bass, and catfish. Could be stocked again provided regular rains to keep levels full. Walking/Hiking Trails - (See aerial map on page 2) In 2020 we completed hand clearing the walking trails, and depending on your chosen path, there is a single continuous loop just shy of 3/4 mile long. The trail winds over all parts of the area- through pine groves, over a wooden footbridge, and alongside the pond. We have spent countless hours walking hundreds of miles on the shady trails year-round. Camps – Camp 1: Located at the far back side of the property, accessible by walking trail, or by dirt road in a suitable vehicle. Has cleared spaces for primitive tent camping, or hammocks. The space has a metal fire ring, with a grilling grate, as well as a wooden picnic table and offset smoker charcoal grill. Camp 2: Located adjacent to the pond just off the dirt road. This is a good-sized clearing with space for primitive tent camping or hammocks and has a loose rock fire ring.
