The famed 100,000-acre Pigeon River State Forest in the northern Lower Peninsula of Michigan surrounds this property on three sides. Located northeast of Gaylord, the property includes 579 acres, a 6-bedroom, 5-bath, 4,400SF lodge, and all of Walled Lake, a 43-acre, 70' deep whole private lake. 5,000' frontage on one side of the Black River, one of Michigan's premier brook trout streams, a pond and a creek are included. The forest cover is white pine and aspen with many large red and white oaks. A large storage building is handy but nicely out of sight of the lodge. Club members have taken 12 & 14 point bucks. Pigeon River State Forest is the center of Michigan's 1,000 animal elk herd and elk are frequently seen on the property. There are a dozen elevated blinds, each with small feed plots. This property has been used year round by the owners for 20 years. The Lodge sleeps 22. The county road is plowed past the gate. In recent years the owners have rented the property primarily in July and August, reserving the rest of the year for themselves. Most FF&E is included. A caretaker lives nearby. There's a forest management program with regular cutting, but there are many large red and white oaks, mostly planted by the former owner. Also some large pine, and lots of aspen. The property adjoins the 1,000-acre King Swamp. George King was an outfitter and one of his clients was Ernest Hemingway. King took Hemingway fishing in the Pigeon River and the camp was on this property -- you can still see the built-up pads for the tents. It's likely Hemingway slept there.
