Lanesville was a granite quarrying and fishing village in the northwest corner of Gloucester Massachusetts on scenic Cape Ann. Long known for the fishing industry and artist colonies, Lanesville became the home of many world famous sculptors and artists (Paul Manship, Walker Hancock, George Demetrios, Charles Grafly) as well as authors (Virginia Lee Burton (Mike Mulligan and His Steam Shovel), Lee Kingman (The Best Christmas) and Nancy Hale). Located between the Dogtown Commons, the granite quarries and the rocky coastline, the village of Lanesville has been largely untouched for 75 years since the quarries went out of business.
