Apartment is good price for square foot measurements in Chicago. The building is very old and with that brings a lot of issues. Cockroaches run pretty consistently in the summer in the building with rats in the alley right beside it. Being on Foster there is a fire station, hospital, and police station all within a 1 mile radius of the building, along with the buses, general traffic, and any car speeding that is not shielded at all from your apartment so it is very loud, I usually will hear 2-4 sirens at night trying to sleep, so if you are a light sleeper this would not be ideal. Area has seen a recent increase in crime, with two school children being shot less than 10 minutes away. Living across from a CPS school I work at the chances are higher than usual you will deal with some teenagers that cause issues. Parking is easy during the summer and fall months when allowed on the street, during the winter months with snow it can be a 8-10 min walk back from your car. Water pressure is abysmal at best, if you turn the hot water on too much the pipes will start shaking overhead. There is no blocking the pipes underneath the bathroom sink so there is a direct hole for any animals or insects to come through. Building management is incompetent and not great at communicating, we currently have a back gate door that is not locked where anybody can come through and the back door on one side of the building does not completely shut on its own, so if your neighbors dont close it or you do not anyone can gain access. We had 4 packages stolen from our front section of the 2022 wing since the deadbolt on that door was broken, and after calling and emailing management about it it was fixed......1 week later. Property Management's Statement: "Shame on whoever is stealing packages in the building", with no proof it was anyone from the building. Laundry machines are quarter based, 1.50 per load, half of them do not work unless you "load the coins in a certain way" according to the property manager. I had my bike stolen from the basement of the building, there are no cameras, anyone who legitimately wanted to get into your apartment could if they wanted to. The park next to the building is nice, but very busy during the fall and late summer with sports. None of the windows are entirely sealed so your apartment will leak cool/hot air. Any of the units on the west side of the building get minimal sun through their windows if any.
