The building at 204 Congress Street is significant as a good representative example of a two-story, cross gabled, urban, frame, vernacular Victorian folk residence with reserved detailing. Such simple folk structures embellished with modest detailing of the prevailing architectural style were a practical alternative to the more high-styled homes of the time. A design common among single-family residences, though, less frequent in this neighborhood in which urban singles and doubles of Queen Anne style abound. The circa 1880 stable at the rear of the property was converted to a 4 bay garage in the early 20th century.
