Nonprofit, ECOHAB, brings the first of four brand-new passive solar homes to be sold below market value through their Taos Affordable Homeownership Pilot Project! These homes will lower utility costs and offer below-market ownership options to qualifying residents. The first house will be finished in October, 2026 and we are ready to have a buyer lined up. ECOHAB is partnered with Taos Housing Partnership to assist qualifying buyers. Contact info@taoshousingpartnership.org to see if you qualify!
A comfortable 2-bed/2-bath, this house sits on 1.33 acres. While affordability is the goal when constructing this home, quality is not lowered. Sustainable choices were adapted to the design, including passive solar heating/cooling, partial earth burial for stabilized temperatures, rainwater catchment (in addition to a shared well), and will consist of adobe and lime plaster finishes. Custom cabinetry will also be included throughout the home. Although the passive solar design will keep the house warm in the winter without additional heating, a wood burning stove will be included for additional winter comfort. This house is already staying extra-cool during these hot summer days.
ECOHAB's licensed contractor has previously built this design for a client and you can find finished photos of this home as an example of what this house will similarly look like when completed by visiting ecohab.org/tahp (since we can't post those photos here). We encourage visitation while we are constructing this home. To schedule your visit, contact phil@ecohab.org or call 575-770-9527.
What the owner loves about this home
This affordable design not only is affordable in the upfront cost, but also in the long-term cost by lowering monthly utility bills due to its passive solar design.
