The studio for rent is part of a large Victorian community house called Magnolia House on Alameda. It is its own separate unit, complete with kitchen, closet, private bathroom and the original hardwood floors. The unit has a whimsical turret with large curved windows looking out to the most photographed Victorian home on Alameda (for realz). The kitchen and dining area look out onto the lovely tree in front of our house, almost like living in a tree house. All utilities except electric are included. Magnolia House is a big, beautiful Victorian with a turret and sweeping front staircase and porch. There is free washer/dryer in the basement and a large undeveloped attic with an interior stairwell which we are converting to an entertaining and guest space. There's a large front porch, nice little backyard, chickens (for fresh eggs!), a vegetable garden, a hot tub, and Magnolia and Persimmon tree out front. We have two sweet cats living in the house. The house is located a few blocks from the beach and from Park street, the eastern main drag on the island, populated with wonderful restaurants, a brewery, bookstores, cafes, etc. We're 2 blocks from the recently restored art deco movie theater, a few blocks to the beach, with a view of the city. We commute to SF via the commuter ferry, which takes 15 - 20 minutes from the Alameda port to the ferry building. The Fruitvale BART stop is a short bike ride away. The island has many parks, great ethnic restaurants, and even a popular local winery overlooking SF, which makes for killer sunset nightcaps. Street parking is free and pretty easy. We are looking for people who appreciate community. The people living here are makers and builders. We like DIY projects, gardening, and creating. We laugh a lot. We're social, but also respect personal space, and love the balance that a big Victorian 4-plex can provide.
