Own a piece of history! Charles and Rubey Fritch, the original owners, were planning their home in 1938 - their contractor it turns out was also in charge of the demolition of the old Escambia County Courthouse on the northwest corner of Palafox and Chase streets. He asked, if they would be interested in any of the building materials from the courthouse. After touring the building, Mrs. Fritch stated she wanted everything! So, the bricks, slate roof, marble lintels, front door, interior doors, door knobs, molding, trim, stair rails - just about everything but the plaster and floors in this house were salvaged from the old courthouse. At that time using salvage materials was frowned upon by the upper class - but they were happy to have them. In 1996-97 the second owner (which is the current owner) added an addition to the back of the house carefully matching as close as, possible the brick and other material of the original house. The new addition was used to create a large kitchen on the first floor and a spacious master bath on the second level. Most of the windows now are newer and not original to the house, and electrical and plumbing has also been updated. Most all the floors are hardwood with tile in the kitchen, office and bathrooms. Both downstairs and upstairs rooms have 8.5i?? ceilings and all the rooms are spacious and receive lots of natural light. As you enter the front door you enter a large foyer with the steps to up stairs ahead of you, the dining room to the left and the living room with a beautiful fireplace to the right. Behind the living room you can access a study / sunroom (which was a back porch originally) with tongue and groove wood ceiling, lots of windows and built-in book cases. The kitchen is behind the dining room with the laundry room between them. The kitchen has plenty of beautiful wood cabinets, lots of windows that over look the back yard, an island, and a built in desk area with a television shelf above. Up stairs you will find a large master bedroom with two original closets and two new large closets on either side of the entrance to the master bath. The master bath has double vanities, large tub / shower and features a vaulted wood ceiling that really adds character to this space. The back door is located between the kitchen and the sunroom. Off the back of the house is a cover porch and steps that lead down to a large open patio. The back yard is well landscaped and provides nice privacy. Big enough for a pool. There is a single car garage location in the back yard. The house has been extremely well cared for and well updated as should a piece of history like this.
