Daleville College began in 1890 when the Nininger Family, who already had a home on the property (73 Tinker Mill Road), and the Layman family, built a schoolhouse (177 College Drive) to serve both families, however it quickly grew to become a landmark educational institution with the additions of two new buildings in 1898 (151 College Drive) and 1908 (211 College Drive). In 1920, Daleville College merged with Bridgewater College and the property became municipal buildings for the county, serving as courthouse, jail and community event space.
