The home was originally built closer to 1800 (all though it's listed as having been built in 1860) and is 2 story log home that we exposed in the interior during renovation. The logs were hand hewn logs. We removed the ceiling from the middle room so you can see up to the second story ceiling. We put balconies on either side with hand wrought iron railing. One balcony has a door at each end that lead to bedrooms. The other balcony acts as a hallway to get from the landing at the top of the stairs through to the rest of the upstairs. This house originally had 3 sets of stairs, we removed 1 in order to make a laundry area (galley type shape) which also has the door to the basement. The hallway downstairs leading to the bathroom has a cellar door in the floor which leads to the dirt floor root cellar underneath where you can see the original trees (bark still attached) that was used for the foundation. The original log home was added onto 3 separate times by our estimate. Once at the turn of the 20th century, once around 1930, and the last around 1950's. There was a chimney stack in every room for a total 4 possible coal stoves (we removed all but 1) and still has the original huge fireplace in the kitchen. The central heat source is a wood pellet stove installed in 2005 in the middle room of the home. Cost to operate is under $1000 for the season but you may spend less as I am home all day. There is also electric baseboard heat in a few of the rooms. All new plumbing, all new electrical wiring, refinished floors, and a new enameled metal roof. We currently have a lease with Solar City for our solar panels which can transfer. There is an old hand-dug stone-walled well in the front yard (aesthetics) and a cistern under the house with separate pump for outdoor use. Our well water has a new pump and has a water softener attached. There is also a barn on the property. New concrete sidewalk and black-topped parking area for 4 vehicles. A new "Best Available Technology" septic system with drainage field is currently being installed.
