The apartment is at the southern tip of the Kalorama neighborhood (where the Obamas, Ivanka Trump, etc. live) which is a very nice and super safe residential neighborhood. Our block is pretty much the only block of apartments in the neighborhood. But just on the other side of us is Connecticut Avenue, which runs through DuPont Circle and is full of bars, restaurants, coffee shops, ice cream, etc. etc. We live walking distance to pretty much anything you would need - across the street from a small Asian grocery and dry cleaner, 5 minutes to 18th St in Adams Morgan (bars, pizza, etc.), 8 minutes to the red line metro, 10 minutes to Safeway, 15 minutes to Trader Joe's, 20 minutes to 14th and U (lots of bars), 25 minutes to Georgetown and Foggy Bottom, 25 minutes to the mall and monuments. It's a residential area, but also walking to distance to anything you would ever need, except for maybe a baseball game or Capitol Hill, and you can get to those things all by metro!
