History: The home was originally built in 1900 as a horse stable. The owner, just back from war, purchased the property and made his home in the stable’s loft. He bought a horse and carriage and made a living transporting goods from the pier into town. The stable was added onto over the years as his income and need for creature comforts increased. We purchased the home in 2015 and found the original walls of the horse stable during renovations. We salvaged some of the wide planks to use for the built-in bookcases by the fireplace and the sliding barn door upstairs. Storage: During renovations, we discovered 4 large (walk –in) attic spaces. We cut out doorways, had the spaces insulated with spray foam, and installed 4” HVAC air ducts so the spaces would be heated and cooled. The space at the top of the stairs (with the barn door) is used for storing holiday decorations. There is also a very large attic above the carport and a charming outdoor shed in the backyard for additional storage. Low Utility Costs: The house is extremely energy efficient due to spray foam insulation in walls and roof, newly installed Hurricane Windows and doors, whole house Tank-less Hot Water on Demand, and new LED lights throughout the house. A Mini-Split unit helps cool and heat master suite.
