This office exclusive six-bedroom extraordinary period home is currently operating as a bed and breakfast. George T. Jones was a wealthy Granville merchant who started with a tinning business, later expanding his lines to include hardware, as well as a business supplying potatoes to the village. His tinning and hardware business was sited at the northeast corner of Broadway and Prospect Street, about a block and a half away from his home. The house was built in 1861 by Wallace Carpenter together with his partner, Morgan Williams. This Tuscan Vernacular-style house is distinguished by multiple bay windows as well as much original detailing. The cornice bracketing is made of terra cotta. The siding was designed with long wide boards and then painted by Carpenter with a sand finish to resemble sandstone blocks. A wide front porch complements the home’s symmetry. Jones married Arabella “Belle” Lyon, of Hebron, in 1861. This home was a gift to his bride.
